Abstract
A 67-year-old man with a history of type II diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease developed herpes zoster over the left trunk region and admitted for acyclovir therapy. Within the following 48 hours, cognitive dysfunction and generalized stereotypy abnormal movements occurred. Acyclovir-induced neurotoxicity was suspected. Acyclovir was discontinued and sustained dialysis was given; the neuropsychological symptoms gradually abated. The literature is reviewed and the neurological toxicity related with acyclovir is discussed.
